Conversation starter of the day July 11

If you knew that eating healthy foods--and cutting out such things as hamburgers or ice cream--would (for a certainty) add ten years to your life, would you do it?  Why or why not?

  1. Oooh, I love a discussion on food!

In short, no. I don't try to eat healthy because it will make me live LONGER, but because it should make us live BETTER. In America, we pour so much junk into our bodies, then we spend billions treating diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancers, etc. So many people are on heart meds, cholesterol meds, blood pressure meds, etc. when I wonder if healthy eating and exercise would solve a lot of those problems.

I realize that healthy eating is no guarantee that there won't be problems down the road. Someone can live as healthy a lifestyle as possible and still end up with diabetes or a heart condition. But I think the instances would be much rarer, and for the population as a whole, a healthier lifestyle would lead to much fewer health problems.

I also think it's ok to have that hamburger or ice cream on occasion. Trying to deprive yourself totally of the things you love is sure to backfire!

All that being said, we had pizza for dinner last night, and I'm NOT exercising at the moment. :) But I will again in a few months, and it was homemade pizza, which I'm sure has much less fat and sodium than Pizza Hut!
